I AM GOING TO HAVE A BABY ABROAD ...

PATERNITY LEAVE : 14 days

PATERNITY SHORT LEAVE : 3 DAYS + 11 = 14 days

Since the 1st January 2002, fathers have the right to claim 11 consecutive days to stay with their newborn. Before the date, fathers used to get 3 days, within those they had to queue for registering their child. Now they can ask for  those 11 days + the 3 days, that is to say 14 consecutive days.

The leave has to be taken in one time : you can't get 5 days there and 10 after.

The leave lasts 11 days for one child and 18 days for twins.

These 11 days can be taken consecutively just after the birth or during the four following months.

Conditions to fill to claim it:

The father has to write to his boss at least one month before the due date, and has to mention his return date.

The leave is paid by the Sécurité Sociale as "indemnités journalières".
